Coach Melanie Yarzy

Co-owner & Coach

CoachMelanieIMG_1200_FotorHello! My name is Melanie Yarzy.  I’m 38 years old. I was born in Pasadena, Texas.  I graduated from Dobie High School and studied Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Houston.  I was a swimmer in high school, and in college I began running for fitness.

In 2001 I ran my first road race the Houston Marathon and in 2008 I did my first triathlon the 70.3 at Galveston.  I began coaching triathlon in 2009, and then got my USAT certification in 2010.

My coaching philosophy is to know your athlete.  There are many different ways to train, and for the best result you need to know in which direction to go with each of your athletes.  They all respond differently.  I’m a pretty nerdy coach and athlete.  I find much satisfaction in staring at graphs and looking at power numbers.  I also have a good understanding of age group athletes, and how to obtain their best.  I’ve learned a lot by trial and error and most often now coaching has become an educated intuition for me.

Johnny Z.’s Powerhouse Racing is a unique triathlon concept.  It has been with great pleasure that Jim and I have partnered with the Zepeda’s.  The Powerhouse is a team of great people doing great things, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.

Our Powerhouse is your Powerhouse.  Come get fit with us.
